Migrant Experience


 
Traveling to California was definitely not a dream for me but it was the only choice I had. Upon my arrival I was one of few who made it across the California border. Once I crossed it, I went through many troubles trying to find a job. In California there were too many people and not enough jobs. Once I found employment, I learned that the amount of workers wanting jobs put a major decrease in all job salaries. My salary was definitely not enough to live a steady lifestyle neither was it enough to keep me above the poverty line. I was forced to set up camp along one of the irrigation ditches! That’s when they opened up the Arvin Migratory Labor Camp; this camp gave the citizens a clean place to stay. It only got better from there because the Second World War started the economy improved drastically.

What is the American dream?

The American dream is the opportunity to strive for success. As James Truslow Adams said  "life should be better and richer and fuller for everyone, with opportunity for each according to ability or achievement".It enables you to achieve greatness, and allows you to be the best you can be. It gives you stability as you strive for the things you desire.It gives all Americans a chance to be their own boss, as you follow and chase your dreams to greatness.
